» Important Announcement from the Commanding Officer

Posted on Sat Nov 26th, 2016 @ 2:54pm by Captain Julius Whitlam in Sim Announcement

Crew

It is with a heavy heart that I inform you of my decision to resign my command of the Manoora. I will also be standing down from all simming commitments, effective immediately.

The truth is, I’ve been struggling over the past year or so with several personal and professional issues in the real world, none of which have been resolved. This means that other parts of my life, including simming, have suffered as a result. We’re a community and it’s not fair on members of this community if I cannot live up to the expectations put on us all. I’m just unable to give this sim the attention it deserves and that’s not fair on you all.

I have advised the Fleet Commander and our Task Force CO of my decision. As for the future of the Manoora, that is in the hands of the Admiralty and you. Usually, in situations like this, they will open expressions of interest for a member of the crew to take command. My preference, however, is for the sim to close down. Stories of the Dominion War can be told with a different ship and a different crew, but I had a long-term vision for Captain Whitlam and the Manoora that I may someday be able to continue.

Of course, that’s just my view and ultimately it's not up to me.

It has been such a pleasure writing this story with you all and I really do appreciate how you’ve stuck with it through some difficult times. You’re a talented group of writers and I am so pleased that our paths brought us together for this short journey into the stories of the Dominion War.

I wish you all the best in your writing endeavours and hope that we’ll cross paths again sometime in the future.

» An Excellent Month

Posted on Thu Nov 3rd, 2016 @ 2:55pm by Captain Julius Whitlam in General News

Team

A quick news item to let you all know that we not only met our target of 2 post per player for the month of October, but beat it! This is an area we've been focusing on, so it is really good news that we've reached out goal.

So good, in fact, that the Task Force Commander has seen fit to award us the very first award of Division 74. The Manoora has been awarded D74's Compass Rose Award for the month of October in recognition of our efforts.

Congratulations everybody and let's maintain this momentum through to the end of this mission and into the next!

» New Player

Posted on Thu Sep 8th, 2016 @ 12:38am by Captain Julius Whitlam in Sim Announcement

Hi Team

Just a quick announcement to let you know that we have a new player joining us. Please welcome Aaron, who is playing Lieutenant Commander Kiaon Solomon our new Ospreys Squadron Leader. He will initially be the Squadron's XO, but will find himself unexpectedly catapulted into the squadron leader's seat with the demise of our current NPC squadron leader.

Aaron's already into the action with a ripper of a first post, so check it out if you can. Otherwise, welcome aboard Aaron!

» Message from Chief of Fleet Operations

Posted on Tue Aug 16th, 2016 @ 6:16am by Captain Julius Whitlam in General News

Hi Team

There's a discussion happening right now amongst the Fleet about Task Force organisational structures. Below is a message from Admiral Gates regarding this discussion and how you can have your say.

From the looks of it, the Manoora would transition, along with the rest of our Task Force, into the new Division 74 ("Special Projects Division"). Beyond that, I don't see it having much of an impact on our missions.

Have a read and I urge you to participate in the discussion on the forum.

MC

From Admiral Gates:

For those of you who were able to make it to the monthly meeting yesterday, you’d have seen that we have a plan to adjust our current Task Force organisational structure. Our Niche Task Group will be moved out into a Task Force of its own called Division 74 (“Special Projects Division”), and the remainder of Task Force 11 will be split into three Task Forces. Task Force 11 will remain situated in the Galactic South focussing on its Gorn/Klingon War story arc, while the other two Task Forces will be located elsewhere, and expected to develop their own story arcs.

The specifics of choosing new TFCOs and arranging which sims go into which Task Forces will be discussed later (we’ll try to make sure that sims end up where they most want to be, but where that isn’t possible, our rules don’t force you to adhere to your TF’s AoO or story arc; so you could conceivably be in one of the new TFs and still participate in TF11’s story arc in the galactic south) – but what is currently being discussed is the location of these two new Task Forces. The current options on the table are The Borderlands (near Tzenkethi/Cardassian/Talarian space), The Northern Frontier (facing the galactic core, with the Ferengi and Breen on one side and Romulans on the other), the Gamma Quadrant and the Delta Quadrant.

We have a post up on the forums giving more details of each area (and maps for the Borderlands and Northern Frontier), as well as a poll for people to indicate the two areas they think we should expand into – it would be great if we could get as many people involved in this discussion as possible, as it will determine the direction of the next few steps the fleet takes. I’d also encourage you to circulate this link around to your crews; the discussion and poll is open to everyone.

» Loss of Player & Fighter NPCs

Posted on Mon Aug 15th, 2016 @ 3:16pm by Captain Julius Whitlam in General News

Hi Team

I'm sad to report that, due to ill health, we have officially lost Malcolm, who played 2nd Lieutenant Lancaster, one of our fighter jocks. He has been dealing with a difficult health situation for the past little while and I know I speak for everybody on the crew when I say we hope Malcolm will get better soon. While his character is inactive, I have left open the possibility of him rejoining us later.

This means that there are now no PCs among the fighter pilots. If anybody knows somebody who would be interested in joining the Ospreys, please let me know. Otherwise - and for the duration of the mission - we have an opportunity to create some NPCs as fighters. I know some of you already have a pilot NPC, but I'm opening it up to others who might want to spread their wings and fly.

Let me know ASAP if you'd like to create a fighter pilot NPC as I want to kick along the fighter section of the current mission. As you'll know from the workshop, the fighters play a role in detecting when the Dominion fleet is upon us. In the coming days, I'll start up a JP among the NPCs of the fighter squadron to get things moving. If you want to be part of it, let me know and I'll include you as well.

Otherwise, keep working on your away team or shipboard posts and don't forget about this month's Writing Challenge.

Thanks

MC

Captain Whitlam paused as he reached the door to the Administrator's office and turned back to Odegaard. "I don't expect him to change his mind in here," he said quietly so only Anders could hear. "So our job is to delay him until Windsor reports back. Understood?"

"Weapons free! Engage, engage, engage!" Keller barked and his fighter was the first to open fire with a barrage of pulse phasers and micro-torpedoes.

The combat air patrol - an anachronistic term for an operation in the vacuum of space, but one widely used regardless - had been deployed for some time throughout the system. Commander Martin Keller, commander of the 242nd "Ospreys", sat back in the cockpit of his Peregrine-class fighter and surveyed…
