Specialist Fields

Posted on Wed May 27th, 2015 @ 11:36am by Lieutenant Commander Alexander Gunning & Lieutenant Commander Anders Odegaard

Mission: Prelude to War
Location: Main Bridge [Deck 1, USS Manoora]

Anders managed to scavenge himself a set of Quarters and even an Officer for the small Intelligence Team that was soon to be aboard the Manoora at any moment. However the Intelligence Officer had yet to properly study the Tactical Systems of the Akira Class ship to see how it would work against the Jem'Hadar.

The Lieutenant stepped out of the Turbolift and onto the Bridge of the Ship and made a move for one of the aft consoles, he had his PADD in hand and began to examine some of the ship's functions. Any advantage would help, it was to be prepared early.

Gunning smiled and offered a nod of greeting as the Lieutenant walked onto the bridge. It was fairly obvious from his bearing that he was a senior officer, but they hadn't met. Captain Whitlam had left him in charge of the bridge while he was in conference with his new Executive and he was still shifting uncomfortably, trying to get used to the centre chair.

"Are you the new intelligence bod?" He asked, turning the chair slightly toward him.

Anders turned and nodded. "Yes Sir, Lieutenant Anders Odegaard." The Norwegian Officer smiled. "Big Chair isn't it?" He asked, in reference to the Captains Chair in the centre of the Bridge.

"I don't envy the Captain his job, let's put it that way." Gunning got to his feet and briefly shook the man's hand. "Want a run through of the tactical systems?"

Anders nodded. "Yes please, it might help my job that little bit easier." The Lieutenant smiled. "I didn't get much chance to study the Specifications before my arrival."

Gunning had lined a joke up about an intelligence officer not knowing the intel but thought better of it. "Well, the main difference between an Akira and your usual starship is the burst-fire torpedo launchers. We've got twelve of them in total making this one of the most formidable gunboats available. You'll be thankful that she is by the time the Dominion start shooting at us."

He came round the chair toward the tactical console. Between him, Odegaard and the marines there was going to be a significant amount of debate over who was responsible for what- he wanted to avoid that as much as possible. "You'll be pleased to hear that with the science bods being shipped off there's significantly more room on the sensor pallets. I've got you sorted with two dedicated lateral arrays for whatever intel gathering you need to do. Only time you might lose them's in a firefight."

Anders nodded. "That is fair enough, what's the Torpedo count like?" The Lieutenant asked examining the Torpedo tubes. "Quantum and Photon I am assuming?"

"We've got six hundred standard armament photons and three hundred-odd quantums as well, yeah." Gunning replied before calling up another display showing another complement completely. "We've also got a few of these bad boys if things get really hairy. Tricobalt Devices. They'll deal about double the punch of a quantum, but they're a bit of a last gasp."

"Now that is one hell of a Punch." The Lieutenant commented to the Commander. "The Jem'Hadar Attack Ships won't be put off by that at all, if anything a Ship like this is a prime target."

"That's true but we'll be hoping that their fighters go looking for the luxury liners," Gunning made reference to the larger ships like the Galaxy and Nebula-classes. "If we get the drop on them then we'll be sitting pretty."

Anders nodded. "They took out the Odyssey in the Gamma Quadrant with ease, these Jem'Hadar are selective and loyal beyond any doubt " The Lieutenant nodded. "I hope your Security Staff know what they are in for?"

"Security are absolutely dead on- ready as they've ever been. It's the kids up here at tactical I'm worried about. We've got one junior grade and three ensigns as tactical relief and half of them don't have experience as anything more than support staff. If I'm not on this console," he hesitated for a second as he considered the possibilities, "hell I don't even want to think about it."

Anders chuckled. "Don't worry Sir, I am Tactically Qualified," The Lieutenant said trying to reassure Commander Gunning. "I do not mind lending a hand if need be, one of my Specialist Fields is Phaser and Disruptor Weapons and I have had to temporarily fill in before now."

Gunning smiled warmly. "I might need to take you up on that, Lieutenant."

With a polite nod Anders chuckled and then returned to the Tactical System. "Attack Fighters? Wow those will be useful." He said skimming through the Data. "Marines as well?"

"Yep. Full kit and caboodle. The ex-oh's ragin'. He thought he was getting an exploration gig and now all his probes have been replaced by torpedoes, his staff by marines and there's fighters where the shuttles should be." Gunning said, unable to keep his smile internal.

Anders smirked. "How much of the Crew has actually been replaced then Sir?" He asked curiously. "All I know is that my Conference on Andoria is now one dinner guest short,"

"Not sure exactly but let's put it this way: we used to have a science department." Gunning replied with a wicked grin. "All in all I think I've had thirty added to my department and then I think there's another eighty-odd marines due to come aboard. In fact, I'm due to meet with them in the Hangar Bay."

Anders nodded. "Understood Sir, I will eave you to it."

"Well in that case, you have the CONN, Lieutenant."

Anders gave the Commander a nod as he moved towards the Turbolift. The Lieutenant looked around at the Bridge for a moment and then towards the almighty Chair in the centre. He gave a deep breath and then sat down, taking a moment to adjust to the feel of being in that position.

He looked towards the Ensign at Ops and gave a nod before saying. "I have the CONN."
