Captain's Log - Stardate 51076.9

I'm so sick of falling back.

We all knew that this war would be difficult, but I don't think anyone imagined things would be this bad. Despite our early victory at Torros, we've spent the last three months banging our heads against a series of walls. The Dominion feels unstoppable.

We've lost a lot of good people. On the Manoora, we've now lost over one hundred killed in action. One hundred and three. That's the total. I can recall all of their names, all of their faces and though I didn't know them all very well, I feel the weight of their deaths on my shoulders. The crew has started up a makeshift shrine to honour our dead in the corridor outside The Bunker. It’s hard to walk past the faces of the dead every day, but I think it’s important that we remember why we’re fighting.

We've also lost a lot of our crew to injury and transfer. I'm fortunate to have retained most of my senior officers, but we lost Commander Gunning, Doctor De La Croix and Lieutenant Williams to transfer. Our new chief engineer, Lieutenant Winters, has proven to be highly capable and I’ve been pleased to have developed a good working relationship with her very quickly. I suppose you have to in wartime. There has been a high turnaround in medical staff; it seems we have a new CMO every time we leave spacedock. It’s been a similar situation at Tactical, but I’m about to appoint a new chief of security that I think will work out very well.

The Manoora is now returning to the front lines after spending three weeks in dock undergoing repairs. The Cardassians hit us hard on that last convoy, but the ship has bounced back better than I could have expected. Whatever wall the brass sends us to bang our heads against next, I’m sure this ship will get us through yet again.
